But every article you read covers the basics you already know: “Share your content on social media” or “Send an email to your customers.” These “basic as beans” items are not enough: you need specific strategies that will deliver results.
There is no problem. I’m with you..
In this article, you can explore 10 actionable and unconventional strategies to speed up your blog development. Implementing some of these strategies will result in more followers, email subscribers, traffic, and revenue.

10 unconventional strategies to make your blog grow faster
1. Use co-branded gifts to build your audience and earn rewards for free
Running cheap is one of the fastest ways to spread the word about your blog. Depending on how you have decided on your cheapest route, you can increase your social following, email list, and traffic. Why? Free things are a strong incentive. Especially when you want to give your audience something.
But, most people avoid live life due to the cost of buying prizes to make offers.
Here is the good news:
You don’t have to pay the prize. In your niche, there are likely a ton of brands that will be ready to offer rewards for a co-branded giveaway. This is how it will work and any gift would require participants to complete an action. These will generally be:
- Share cheap on twitter
- You follow on twitter
- Share cheap on facebook
- Like your Facebook page
- Connect with your email newsletter
- … etc.
Thus, it only gives the brand a chance to list its features. As a result, they develop their next email list in the process and they get additional visibility from great advertising for their audience, etc.
But what brand should you give this idea to.. Start with the brands you have an existing relationship with. Those you promote as an affiliate or have purchased sponsored content from you are excellent candidates.
How to run your giveaway
You will need a tool or plugin to make it cheaper to run. You can use a social media competition platform like Gleam. They have a free plan that lets you get started right away. Alternatively, you can use a WordPress gift plugin like RafflePress that is more cost-effective than a paid Gleam plan.
2. Clean up your bad email list and improve email delivery
Getting people to be on your email list is one thing, but making sure people receive your emails and open them? It is a completely different matter. What many people don’t know is that email delivery can be improved through the use of email verification, like email.
These tools will verify that the email is correctly formatted, that the domain exists, and ping the email to make sure it is active. If the email address is no longer active, it will normally return a “bounce” notification which is an indication that the email address is no longer active.
Some email marketing platforms filter hard bounces and remove them from your list, but not all do. Companies like Gmail, Yahoo, and AOL sometimes turn these inactive email addresses into a spam trap. The goal is to catch spammers.
But sometimes legitimate email senders (like you or me) can end up with a spam trap on our email list. This can adversely affect email delivery. Therefore, by using one of these email verification tools, you can prevent this from happening and keep your email list in top condition.
You can use these types of devices in a timely manner or continuously. 3. Implement category specific subscription forms to register your email 3 times
A few years ago I became a partner in a digital marketing agency; My first job was to review their lead generation process. They had great blog content but had no email records where they were supposed to be.
The best practice is to create individual lead magnets (also known as content updates) for each item, but time and resources are limited. Instead, I identified 5 main themes that generated the most blog traffic. I have regrouped the WordPress categories to align them with these themes.
I made 5 new lead magnets, one for each category. Then I installed a WordPress plugin called Thrive Leads and created a new set of subscription forms for each WordPress category. This allowed me to create a sidebar option after the post form and the popover that would be assigned to the corresponding category.
Note: I have also created a hidden page on the website where visitors can download for free. I updated the welcome email to include a link on the page. And, I hosted Lead Magnets for free using Dropbox.
Outcome? More than 300% increase in email subscriptions before any A / B testing. So why does it work? This works for the same reason that content updates work. People are more likely to subscribe to your download resource if your topic relates to the content (or topic) they are currently reading.

4. Create a specific landing page for each of your main magnets
If you are not creating a landing page for each of your main magnets, you are missing out on a great opportunity. Most optional forms convert to less than 1% unless they are particularly well optimized. Why?
What about landing pages? Landing pages can easily be converted to over 30%. For example, here are my top landing page stats in the Blog:

- It has been converted to 36% effortlessly. Not bad, right?
To get the most out of your landing pages, you need to do two things:
a) Create a conversion-focused landing page
First, it’s important that we clarify what a conversion-focused landing page is.. This is not just another page on your blog that has an added subscription form. This is a separate page with no deflection – no navigation menu, sidebar, or normal footer element. This type of page has one goal: to convert!

Now how do you create this type of landing page? Depending on the content management you use, you may already have the functionality of the landing page. Some email marketing tools like ConvertKit and Sendinblue have this functionality, but I prefer to use a dedicated tool.
If you use self-hosted WordPress, Thrive Optimization is a great option because it includes A / B testing. However, there are many other landing page plugins that you can use. And there are separate landing page tools as well, such as reference pages (but they’re more expensive).

B) Plan a promotional campaign for each of your landing pages
Now that you have created your landing pages, it is time to start driving traffic towards them and there are many ways to do this.
- Share them on your social media account.
- Add them to your YouTube video in the latest card, details and more
- Take advantage of online communities like Facebook groups (if the group allows it).
- Reorder blog posts on platforms like Medium and include a call to action at the end of your post.
- Create 5 unique Pinterest images for each landing page (be sure to place your actions and limit the number of boards you share).
- Write for other blogs and link to the home page in your author bio.
- Promote landing pages within your content.
- Add calls to action for landing pages in your sidebar.
There are payment channels you can use:
- Facebook Ads
- Taboola Ads
- LinkedIn Ads
- Twitter Ads
Note: If you plan to use paid channels, you will need to make sure you have a sales funnel to benefit from your advertising investment.
5. Use fun quizzes to drive traffic on social media (and get more email subscribers)
Questionnaires are one of the most attractive types of content.They are quick to make and can deliver excellent results even with a small audience. For example, a friend of mine launched a new classic car website. He did two fun tests and performed 6K monthly in 2 months, thanks to the viral exchange on social networks.
So how do you do your own quiz?
You will need a tool to get started. If you use WordPress, there are plenty of test plugins you can use. This Colin Newcomer tutorial explains how to create your own viral quiz with WordPress. What happens if you don’t use WordPress?
There are many SaaS applications that you can use to take quizzes. The SaaS app is a good option. For example, TryInteract includes a set of templates to speed up the process of creating quizzes. Here are some examples of templates I found when searching for blogs:
Then you can customize your quizzes and embed them anywhere with code snippets.
6. Stop reinventing the wheel and use these proven copy-writing formulas instead
Writing a compelling copy takes a long time, especially if you reinvent the wheel every time. Great copywriters have already created a lot of fonts that you can use to:
- Email subject line
- The conclusion
- Full blog post
- Sales page
- Email automation sequence
For example, you may have heard of formulas like AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) or PAS (Problem, Agitate, Solve). These formulas can help you speed up your writing. Not only that, but they’re great for those days when you don’t feel so inspired.
We’ve found an article on copywriting formulas to know about you, but the web is full of resources. Whenever you find a formula that you like, write it down for future reference.
7. Use social media monitoring tools to find guest blogging opportunities your competitors don’t know about
While guest blogging can be unpredictable when it comes to traffic, you can improve your chances with a smart strategy. For example, choosing a blog with a committed audience will improve your chances of generating traffic. The only problem?
Putting your content on a blog with a large audience can be a challenge given the amount of submissions they receive and it is not surprising. If everyone uses the same techniques to find guest blogging opportunities, everyone will find similar sites. So what is the solution?
Use a technique that hardly anyone uses. Brands commonly use listening on social media to find brand mentions, sales opportunities, and potential public relations issues. But to find guest blogging opportunities?

8. Use Quora to highlight keyword ideas. No other tools will be found
If you want to drive regular traffic to your content, you must post the content that people search for on search engines like Google. Keyword research tools like SEMrush, KWFinder, and Ahrefs are great for this.
But, the truth is that they will not be able to find every keyword that is. And, it is particularly easy for them to remember more long-tail keywords. Sites like Q&A can help you find ultra-specific, long-tail keyword ideas.
Just type in a topic that is relevant to your niche, click on the answers tab, and you’ll probably see a ton of keyword ideas. I immediately found a bunch of them. Use Quora to highlight keywords.. Some ideas didn’t come right away, but they may still be useful, they may just need a little updating.
Note: Avoid the URL for any query that gives you keyword ideas. You can write answers to questions and then link back to your article as an additional resource. Just be sure to answer the question instead of urging visitors to click on your link; otherwise, Quora can mark your response and delete it.
9. Reach new audiences without creating new content from scratch
One of the easiest ways to drive traffic to your blog is to reproduce your content in other types. This is great because you don’t have to create anything new from scratch and you will access a new audience in the process. I’m talking about repurchasing content.
You can convert a video post into a video post, a video into a slide show. For example, I converted one of my blog posts into a slideshare presentation and got over 18,000 additional views that I didn’t get. Rearrange your blog posts into slide shows. Is this all you can do?
Not! There are many things you can do with rebuy content. Especially when you collaborate with other bloggers or brands. For example, I took a group interview to get contributions from many influential people in the marketing space and teamed up with a company, making it an infographic.
Then we organize the accommodation on a very large website. I wrote a little blog post with a few clicks to tweet and work. Then I republished the infographic version and emailed everyone who contributed. The original received thousands of visitors and entries. More than 30,000 visitors received the infographic edition.
10. Use infographics to get more links to your column content
If you want your content to be ranked on Google, you will need a back link. The best type of content to earn links is still infographics. By simply adding infographics to existing content that is ranking pretty well and getting some traffic, you can start earning more backlinks and improve your ranking.
Here’s how to get started:
A) Choose an item “Easy win” with Google Search Console
For this you must have a Google Search Console account. Once inside your account, you need to go to the search results tab and click on Average Ranking. Then you will see additional data in the table below.
Next, you need to find the blog post that is ranked for this keyword. You may already know. But, you need to make sure to click on the query and select the page tab above the table. This will show you the content that is rated.
Google Search Console: collect data in a spreadsheet. List all the URLs and add them to a spreadsheet. You need to follow the steps below for an article first, but if you want to do it with more articles, it would be helpful to have these URLs ready.
B) Turn your blog post into an infographic and add it to your content
To save money, you can do it yourself using a tool like Canva or Venor, but I prefer to outsource this step because I am a terrible designer. Going through the hours at PeoplePerHour will put some good designers to work.
Once the infographic is ready, you will need to include it in your existing content. You can increase your chances of getting links by adding infographic embed code for people to copy.
C) Plan a promotional campaign around your new infographic
Since you’ve updated your content, it pays to republish your article, just as you would a new article. Email it to your list, share it on your social accounts, promote in online communities and more.
You should also share your infographic directly on Pinterest. Infographics work incredibly well there. In fact, I’ve only gained a ton of links due to people searching for my infographics on Pinterest.
Next, you should consider accessing websites in your niche that publish infographics. You can use Google to search for them, but I prefer to use Pinterest. So go to Pinterest and search for Themes + Infographic. For example, I can search email marketing infographics.. Search Pinterest for infographics..
Then you want to click to find websites that publish these infographics. Make sure it’s a good quality site and reach out to see if they’re ready to republish your infographic. In your presentation, offer to write short content with the infographic and share the republished version with your audience. This will increase your chances of saying yes.
Note: There are many infographic directories, but getting a link from most of them isn’t worth it. Most of them exist solely for the purpose of building links. How to identify which content promotion platform works and which does not
If you want to grow your blog, then you need to know what works and what does more. But, to find out what works, you’ll need the right systems and processes that allow you to track each of your content promotion campaigns.
You will need three things:
- Google Analytics is installed on your website
- A spreadsheet with UTM campaign parameters for each platform.
- A unique short link for each promotional channel
Chances are, you first come to Google Analytics and a short link before that. But what exactly are these UTM campaign parameters? They are small snippets of text that link to existing links, which helps analysis tools filter data.
The idea is that you have a special tracking link for each platform that you will use to promote your content. Then you can use the Campaign menu in Google Analytics to see how your content is performing. Need help getting started with this? See the full tutorial on my personal blog.
Note: If you change the permalink structures or redirect your content to a new URL, your UTM link will have an error 404. Consider this before using the UTM parameters.
